This piece is wildly different from all of my other creations, due to the wooden butterfly attachments. The painting is 16 x 20 inches and the edges of the painting are electric just like the butterflies – painted in yellow, purple, pink and green. If you look closely, you’ll find that the butterflies have a pattern running on their body and wings, a koru. Koru is a spiral shape, which is based on the shape of an unfurling fern frond and it is an integral symbol in Māori art, representing life, growth, strength and peace.
Medium: pastel ground, hard pastels and laser cut wooden butterflies attched onto the canvas.
